According to Macao Daily, the Economic and Technological Development Bureau (DSEDT) has intensified its efforts to assist businesses in the NAPE district as satellite casinos prepare to close.
Since 10 June, the bureau has visited over 300 local shops in the area, which hosts several of the soon-to-shutter venues. Lau Kit Lon, Head of the Industrial Development Department, stated that while foot traffic has largely remained steady, spending patterns have shifted.
The purpose of the visits is to gather feedback from merchants, introduce available support measures, and guide those exploring business transformation or digitalisation. Lau emphasized that DSEDT will continue regular engagement and offer targeted support depending on evolving circumstances.
To help revitalise the district, the government is rolling out various initiatives. These include installing international IP-themed photo spots to attract locals and tourists, partnering with mainland ticketing platforms to offer promotional bundles like Grand Prix Museum tickets and shopping vouchers for concert attendees, and proposing hotel guest discount vouchers. The bureau is also encouraging local chambers and associations to host unique community events.
All these measures aim to boost the district’s appeal and help businesses adapt to changing consumer trends. A dedicated hotline has been launched to assist merchants seeking guidance or support.
