In the first Test match between India and England at Leeds, India’s wicketkeeper batsman, Rishabh Pant, successfully cemented his name in the record book by becoming the second wicketkeeper to score two centuries in a Test match.
He now stands alongside former Zimbabwe wicketkeeper Andy Flower, who had scored 141 and 199* against South Africa at Harare in 2001.
[TRENDING] Rishabh Pant’s Historic Feat at Leeds
India’s star wicketkeeper batsman, Rishabh Pant, continued his rhythm in the second innings of the first Test match between India and England, which kicked off on June 20. Coming into Day 4 of the Test, Pant became the first Indian batter to score hundreds in both innings of a Test in England.

In the first innings, Pant scored 134 runs off 178 balls until England’s Tongue dismissed him. His incredible century in the first inning helped India to cross the 470-run mark, giving the English team.
Similarly, in the second innings, where India was upfront with a lead, Rishabh Pant scored 118 off 140 balls, becoming only the second wicketkeeper batsman in history to score twin hundreds in one Test match.

“Rishabh Pant was praised for his incredible feat — becoming the first Indian to score hundreds in both innings of a Test in England — with the tweet highlighting his 8th Test century and stellar performance in the series opener.”
Meanwhile, the total of 5 hundreds for India in the Headingley Test was scored by young Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Pant in the first innings, and KL Rahul and Pant in the second innings.
In addition to this feat, Rishabh Pant has joined the elite list of visiting batters who have scored five consecutive half-centuries in England. The list includes names such as Don Bradman, Hansie Cronje, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Kumar Sangakkara, and Daryl Mitchell.
Similarly, only a few Indian batters have scored centuries in both innings of a Test match, which includes legendary players like Vijay Hazare, Sunil Gavaskar (three times), Rahul Dravid (twice), Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, Rohit Sharma, and now Rishabh Pant.
[UPDATE] What’s Happening at the India vs England Test?
The first Test match between India and England is in full swing as the game has now headed to the fifth day, with England chasing the target set by India.
In the second innings of the match, Indian batters did not perform well as England’s Josh Tongue and Brydon Carse picked up 3 wickets each, along with Shoaib Bashir, who took 2 wickets to wrap up India’s innings in 364 runs.
From India’s batting department, only KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant shone as they both played a crucial innings and scored a century each. KL Rahul scored 137 runs off 247 balls, while Pant scored 118 off 140 balls. Apart from Rahul and Pant, no other batters contributed to the 364 runs.
Before the stumps were called, England scored 21 runs without losing a wicket and now needs 350 runs to win the match on the fifth day. The last day would be enjoyable, as both teams have 90 overs left to snatch victory from each other’s hands.
Writer’s Perspective on Rishabh Pant’s Twin Hundreds Feat
Seeing the new milestone created by India’s star wicketkeeper batsman, Rishabh Pant, is very satisfying for me as a cricket enthusiast. Following his twin hundred in the Headingley Test, he joined the elite ranks, along with Andy Flower, to become the only two wicketkeeper batters in history to score two centuries in one Test match.
It is so exciting to see how Pant has returned from the worst situation in his life to breaking record after record. We all wish Pant and both teams good luck on the fifth day of the test match.
