A former employee at Chicago’s temporary casino has revealed some of the safety and security concerns that have not been reported in the headlines. Steve Zaldua, a former table games dealer, spoke with FOX 32 Chicago on Wednesday.
Zaldua started at the property when it opened in September 2023 and finished his tenure in October. He is currently embroiled in a labor dispute with the casino operator, Bally’s, and alleges that he was the victim of retaliation for expressing safety concerns.
death threats and dealer harassment were commonplace at the property
Zaldua said that death threats and dealer harassment were commonplace at the property, and those making the threats weren’t removed from the casino. He explained that he reported four specific issues during his employment, but felt that Bally’s preferred to operate on a policy of “see no evil, hear no evil.”
The casino has been the site of an armed robbery in the parking garage, and an employee was assaulted and robbed on Monday in one of the property’s bathrooms.
Bally’s refused to comment on the matter when approached by FOX 32 Chicago. It did reference the armed robbery by stating that it doesn’t operate, manage, or own the parking garage. The company said that its security guards went above and beyond their duties to assist the victims.
