Happens in threes
Week Three of the 2025 NFL season conjured extreme twists of fate in three of the early games that left countless bettors nursing bad beats.
worst NFL beat that I’ve ever seen
Pick of the bunch was the Philadelphia Eagles vs Los Angeles Rams. The game ended 33-26 and handed Rams bettors what Westgate Vice President of Race and Sports John Murray said: “Could be the worst NFL beat that I’ve ever seen.”
Rams backers went from the heaven of leading 26-7 in the fourth quarter to the hell of watching the Eagles fight back to lead 27-26. Still covering as 3½-point underdogs and with a last-second 44-yard field goal to kill the game, Rams bettors must have thought their agony was over. Eagle’s giant defensive tackle Jordan Davis had other ideas, as the NFL later shared on X:
Davis blocked the kick, grabbed the ball, and returned it all of 61 yards to the house to clinch a famous 33-26 victory and break the hearts of Rams fans.
“The Rams’ beat is as brutal as you can get,” Boomer’s Sportsbook director of trading Nick Bogdanovich said. “Absolutely beyond brutal.”
More bad beats were served up in the New York Jets vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and the Cleveland Browns vs Green Bay Packers games.
Wild Week 3
After Sunday’s games, the Las Vegas Review-Journal cited Caesars Sportsbook Digital Head of Football Joey Feazel as admitting that “crazy endings 99 times out of 100 usually benefit the customers.”
thrilling way to cash a winning ticket”
“You could hear the hearts pounding of Eagles spread ticket holders while they cheered a mountain of a man carrying their millions move like lightning for (61) yards, a thrilling way to cash a winning ticket.”
The Jets’ Will McDonald almost repeated Davis’ match-winning feat. The 6½-point underdog Jets trailed 23-6 in the fourth quarter against the Bucs but fought back to lead after Will McDonald blocked a 43-yard field goal attempt and scored a touchdown to give New York a 27-26 lead.
Baker Mayfield, however, rallied his team on a game-winning drive into a field goal position the Bucs converted for a 27-29 win.
The biggest shock of the season was 7½-point underdog Browns coming back to beat the Green Bay Packers 13-10 in a game that also featured a pivotal field goal attempt block by Cleveland’s Shelby Harris.
Harris’ block stopped the Packers from taking the lead with 21 seconds left in the game, leaving Andre Szmyt to nail a 55-yarder and give the Browns a 13-10 victory to end a sequence of eight-straight defeats.
Miracle Sunday
Overs bettors in the Chicago Bears vs Dallas Cowboys game must have been a bag of nerves after both franchises remained under 50 points, despite racking up 38 in the first half.
In a game that featured many interceptions in the fourth quarter, Red Rock Resort sportsbook director Chuck Esposito said it “was a miracle that the game stayed under.”
“It was, by far, the best Sunday for our side of the counter to date this season.”
