England Beat West Indies by 37 Runs to Seal T20 Series 3-0

England, led by Harry Brook, has successfully delivered a clean sweep against the West Indies in a three-match England vs West Indies T20 series in England, which concluded on June 10. Following the win over the West Indies by 37 runs, England now holds the position of winning all the T20 series, that too, by the barest of margins.

Similarly, the head coach, Brendon McCullum, seems to be satisfied with the leadership of Harry Brook in this particular series.

[REPORT] Match Summary (Third T20)

Following the win over West Indies by 4 wickets with 9 balls remaining, England was pretty confident going into the third England vs West Indies T20 match of the series. At the Rose Bowl, Southampton, West Indies, won the toss and elected to field first.

It was obvious to the English team that they would be asked to bat first, looking at the pitch and outfield conditions. However, England took this opportunity and marched forward to put up a big score on the board. During the powerplay only, England’s openers Jamie Smith and Ben Duckett scored an unbeaten 83 runs.

Here is a post from England Cricket:

They were in very good shape and were hitting confidently. Along with Ben Duckett’s innings of 84 runs off 46 balls and Jos Buttler’s 22 off 10 balls, England managed to get over the 200-plus score in just 16.3 overs.

Similarly, the 4th wicket partnership of 50 runs in 23 balls between Harry Brook and Jacob Bethel contributed to posting a target of 249 runs in 20 overs.

The match seemed already in the hands of England, but West Indies, being West Indies, did not lose any hope and were determined to chase the target anyhow. Despite the openers, Evin Lewis and Johnson Charles, failing to start strong, the 45-run inning of Shai Hope gave hope for the Indies in chasing the target.

West Indies’ 100 came in 10.2 overs. However, the match slipped away from the West Indies despite the incredible innings from Shimron Hetmyer’s 26 off 8 balls and Rovman Powell’s 79 off 45 balls.

According to ESPNcricinfo, Ben Duckett was awarded player of the match, while Jos Buttler became the player of the series for scoring a total of 165 runs in three T20 matches. On the other hand, the first T20 match, which was held on June 6, was also won by England by 21 runs, and by 4 wickets in the second T20 match of the series on June 8.

[WHAT’S HAPPENING] Captain and Coach Brendon McCullum’s Perspective

This T20 series against England is the first time that the West Indies have been doubleclean-swept by England in both ODI and T20 series since 2012, as per MSN. After the dominant victory against the T20 powerhouse, West Indies, England’s captain, Harry Brook, and head coach, Brendon McCullum, were impressed with the overall performance of the team.

Captain Brook praised the players who contributed during the crucial moments in the matches. He said, “I’m very pleased. The lads have put in a really good shift. To top off the series like we have tonight is really pleasing.

“I like the depth in the batting; it gives the lads at the top permission to go out there and get us off to a flier like they did today.”

Similarly, England’s head coach McCullum appreciated the leadership of Harry Brook and how he is approaching every game and balancing the mindset of each player. He talked to Sky Sports, “It’s been a really good two weeks. We have seen a clear blueprint of how Harry Brook wants this cricket team to run.

I have let Harry find his way with captaincy. He doesn’t like to make things complicated. He likes to keep it simple. He has captained a lot of sides growing up. He’s got great friendships.”

The West Indies might be in trouble, as there are only eight months for the World Cup in India and Sri Lanka, as their coach, Daren Sammy, has so much to work on with the current team.

Karan Chauhan’s Take

As someone who is more into cricket happening around the globe, the dominance of the England team seems lethal and highlights how they can approach the game. The 3-0 T20 series clean sweep over the West Indies proves that the English team is capable of pulling off extraordinary performances time and again. The team led by McCullum is not looking to take a break, as the England team is soon facing India in the Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy starting on June 20.
