The IPL has just ended, and the pre-season trade is already creating the buzz. The IPL pre-season trade buzz is dominating conversations, especially among teams looking to rebuild after underwhelming performances.
The players’ exchange window might not have opened right now, but the hype has already started. Teams are keen to make the changes, and also fix their team right before the mini-auction.
Sanju Samson (RR to CSK)
The biggest IPL pre-season trade talk is about Sanju Samson, who might be included in the CSK team from the Rajasthan Royals. There are plenty of reasons for it.
With Dhoni’s illustrious tenure nearing its end, CSK may soon need a calm and composed successor — and Sanju Samson seems to fit that mold. The bigger question is: who would make way for him in the squad? Any guesses?
Rahul Tewatia (GG to SRH)
An underrated trade that could make a massive difference is this one: Rahul Tewatia, who has been doing little for the team Gujarat, might just move out of the contention, and go for a trade.
His performance hasn’t been particularly impressive over the past two seasons, and GT would be keen to bring in a quality Indian spinner as an upgrade over Tewatia. But who would be interested in Tewatia? SRH? Well, time will tell.
Glenn Maxwell (PBKS to CSK)
Glenn Maxwell has only been good when he played for RCB. In a season that was filled with success for Punjab, Maxwell did little to nothing. Ponting, known for his strategic decision-making, would be keen to push out Maxwell.
There are plenty of options in PBKS for Maxwell. However, CSK will just be interested in Maxi. He can bowl spin and bat with a higher strike rate. Someone whom CSK has been looking desperately for.
Venkatesh Iyer (KKR to SRH)
Just imagine being purchased for Rs 23.75 crore only to be benched mid-season. IPL pre-season trade will have talks of Venkatesh Iyer, and there is no doubt. KKR thought him to be the future captain, but the price tag, converting to performance, is very low.
He only made 142 runs. SRH, who wants a formidable left-handed batter, would be keen on Venkatesh Iyer. But only time will tell whether they will be ready to invest such money in one player who has done average for the team.
Liam Livingstone (RCB to MI)
The biggest IPL pre-season trade that might come into existence is of Liam Livingstone. Although RCB thought of him as a viable attacking option, Livingstone could hardly dominate the whole tournament.
It was Shepherd who came in his place and made a higher impact. But the abilities of Livingstone won’t be compromised. He could be a better use in quicker pitches like Wankhede, which makes MI the top contender.
Amit Mishra Take
IPL pre-season trades are always interesting as they determine the overall dynamics of the IPL major auction. Having said that, teams that haven’t performed well would be looking for a pre-season trade in the open window.
I feel it will be Chennai that will be looking at some key changes in this window to make the rightful impact. As Sanju Samson is the hottest topic, CSK might play the big card.
