The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) has suspended 1,024 players, and law enforcement arrested eight people as part of an ongoing match-fixing probe into soccer games. The TFF announced on October 27 that 371 of the 571 referees working in Turkey’s professional leagues had betting accounts, and 149 officials were suspended for actively placing bets.
All suspended players will now face investigations by the Professional Football Disciplinary Board. Twenty-seven of the players are in the top divisions of Turkish soccer, including some who are members of 16-time league winners Besiktas and defending champions Galatasaray.

The TFF has also decided to postpone all games in the third and fourth divisions for two weeks due to the disruption caused by the disciplinary action. The federation’s president, Ibrahim Haciosmanoglu, said that the scandal is a “moral crisis in Turkish football.”
The TFF also requested that FIFA grant a 15-day winter transfer window extension as clubs try to replace players. Of the eight people who were arrested, one of them is reportedly Murat Ozkaya, the chairman of Eyupspor, a club that plays in the top division.
